Welcome!

I’m so glad you stumbled upon this quiet corner of the web. Allow me to play tour guide for a moment, show you where you’ve landed? A Little History… I’m just a girl redeemed, ever-grateful to my Anchor, Guide, the Lover-of-My-Soul, my Jesus. He’s spun words into motion in my heart, and this is where I share them. My hope is for this place to reflect His refuge, a safe place of encouragement for you. My fictional stories and my Simple-Revelations blog posts– they all come down to what He’s done for...

Mother’s Day for Those Who Ache

Mother’s Day for Those Who Ache

It was Mother’s Day. Years of quiet ache landed me that day standing in front of a kitchen sink, pinching thorns from roses. I am blessed, you see, to be a part of a church that in years past has honored all women on Mother’s Day by giving them a simple, lovely rose—a reminder that they are treasured. In the raw years of longing unfulfilled, when I wondered if I’d ever have a “rightful” place on this day, that single rose was a balm, each and every time. And, so thoughtfully, someone pinched the thorns off of those long stems...

8.5 years ago… this was my prayer.

A prayer, scribbled out one afternoon, my heart open on the page.     I found this today… and began praying it all over again....

On the Darkest of Days, There is Hope

Have you ever found life in a corner of the world where you thought it impossible? I had a few blog post ideas swimming in my mind this week, but this one keeps rolling in, silent but strong, quieting the rest down and asking to be written. Especially this week, after all that has transpired. Like you, I’ve watched with a heavy, heavy heart as the news has unfolded. And as my feeble little mind tried to wrap itself around something it was never intended to have to wrap itself around… the hard questions came, the why’s leading the...

Of Confetti Weights and Tales to be Told

Or, A TALE OF TWO 5K JOURNEYS It was an accident, you see. I started running, and it was an accident. I went to the gym to try a circuit class a few weeks ago. I got there early with a friend, and we walked a little to warm up on the treadmills. People began to trickle in for the class. I cast furtive glances back at them (“Aha! So that’s how to not get tangled beyond the point of rescue in that thing!”). When the small class gathered, my friend and I dismounted the treadmills, took a collective and precarious step toward them… and...

Because: Your Reason to Keep Going

Sometimes, a dream is born. You pursue it with everything you’ve got, and it’s easy to pour into it, because you thrive on it. You feel alive in the serving in it. You pray and you know—it was God who laid this dream on your heart. Just like the verse says, right? “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 What divinely appointed desire he gave your heart! You work and you work and you worship and endeavor and learn and work some more.         Time goes by. You begin...

It All Started with a Honey Pot

Posted by on February 27, 2013 in Blog | 6 comments

Maybe I’m fanciful, and maybe I’m feather-brained. But this little part of me has always wanted one of these: The same part of me that’s always thought it’d be fun to churn butter, always wanted to wind a clock, always wondered what it would be to washboard my clothes instead of spin-cycle them. Well, Dear Reader. This old soul got her dream come true last week: a honey dipper. And a honey-pot. And with it? Tiny pockets of time throughout my day, when I cannot, no matter what, multi-task. There’s amber drizzling from a wooden...

Winter Soil, and How to Hear

Posted by on February 13, 2013 in Blog | 9 comments

Hard and cold the winter blows in around here. It settles deep into our soil until the ground is hard, rock hard. And something else happens, too. Sounds… they roll right over that frozen soil, travelling farther than they ever could during the summer months, when tall grass catches them and soft earth swallows them up. In the winter, highways hum at fever pitch, voices tumble from afar, branches crack and groan… it can be a clamor, those snow-barren days. So how does one find the quiet? Ah, inside, cuddled up close to the fire. Right...
